The Shams Project, 1Gigawatt of Clean Energy, Harnessed from Water and Sun.

Royal Vision

The Shams Project is a landmark national initiative designed to strengthen Morocco’s energy independence and long-term resilience. Through the deployment of 1 gigawatt of floating solar capacity on the Al Wahda reservoir, Shams transforms natural resources into a reliable, sustainable source of power for the Kingdom.

By 2028–2029, the project will deliver clean electricity to millions of citizens, reduce reliance on imported fossil fuels, and generate significant economic value for the country. Beyond energy production, Shams serves as a platform for industrial development, technological advancement, and long-term national capability.

Guided by the enlightened vision of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may God assist Him, the Shams Project reflects Morocco’s firm commitment to sustainability, innovation, and sovereignty. It embodies a strategic ambition: to position the Kingdom as a leading force in clean energy across Africa and beyond, while securing a stable and prosperous future for generations to come.
